Q+A Session

Q: First things first…if someone asked you why you’re a hairstylist, how would you answer?
A: I have been a hairstylist for the past ten years, however my journey into the beauty industry started at age 6 when my mother found me giving full makeup to two antique Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.  My continued love of the arts  and education led me to receive a BFA in Art History in 2004. Shortly after graduation, I decided to make a move to Denver.  My natural instinct to be creative and social eventually brought me to the realization that fashion and hair were not just hobbies, they would be my career and full time obsession.  I immediately enrolled into the cosmetology program at Aveda Institute Denver in 2006, dove in ‘hair first’, and the rest is history!

Q: Where do you find your inspiration? How do you keep it fresh?
A:  I have been reading fashion magazines since I was a kid, and have been studying different fashion photographers for years.  It is my passion to be visually stimulated.  I follow as many amazing photographers, hairstylists and educators on Instagram as I can.  I love to learn and grow, and looking up to people that create amazing things inspire me to take my work to the next level.

Q: Animal person? Yes/No? Explain!
A:  I love my furry family!  I have a boxer/pitbull named Basia, and 2 cats.  One of them is a troublemaker, Toonces, the other is my non-human soul-mate, Puma.

Q: Besides the art of hairstyling, what else do you like to do in your freetime?
A:  I love people watching in my neighborhood, prancing with my pup, eating awesome food, antiquing, going to art museums,  biking around town, and going to the gym.

Q: Tell us the funniest hair story you have had in your experience.
A:  I used to color/cut my friend’s hair in college with absolutely no training.  Box color in foils was my specialty!  One day, I gave my boyfriend at the time a front porch haircut, and he hated it….. he ended up shaving all his hair off.  He looked so terrible without hair, I was forced to end our relationship!
